Bollywood actor Imran Khan and his partner Lekha Washington have recently secured a flat in Mumbai‘s Bandra area, leased from film producer Karan Johar at a monthly rent of ₹9 lakh for a three-year term.
Joining Khan in opting for rented accommodations are several other actors like Kriti Sanon, Kartik Aaryan, Vicky Kaushal, and Katrina Kaif, among others. Some Bollywood personalities even invest in real estate solely for rental purposes.
As per the Leave and License agreement shared by Zapkey, Imran Khan has leased a three-storey apartment situated in Clefepete on Carter Road, Bandra, from Karan Johar. The agreement was formalized on March 20, 2024, with a security deposit of ₹27 lakh.
Certain actors, despite their financial capability to purchase a house, may prefer renting due to personal preferences like a specific view or unavailability of desired properties for sale. This decision could also stem from irregular income patterns, leading them to prioritize high rent expenses over property acquisition.
According to Sandeep Reddy, co-founder of Zapkey, celebrities may opt for premium sea-facing apartments, often not readily available for sale in their preferred locations. They may initially lease such properties while continuing the search for an ideal purchase. Newcomers in the industry might also favor renting initially due to financial constraints and irregular incomes.
Additionally, some actors choose to invest in properties for rental income purposes exclusively.
Bollywood actors who have recently leased properties include Tiger Shroff, Ranbir Kapoor, Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Shahid Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Aditi Rao Hydari, Kajol, and Saif Ali Khan, among others. These rental arrangements vary in terms of locations, rental amounts, and lease durations, showcasing the diverse preferences within the industry.
