Sara Ali Khan: The Journey of a Modern Bollywood Star

Sara Ali Khan, born on August 12, 1995, in Mumbai, India, is an Indian actress known for her work in Hindi films. She hails from the illustrious Pataudi family, being the daughter of actors Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, and the granddaughter of veteran actress Sharmila Tagore and former Indian cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. 


Early Life and Education

Sara completed her schooling at Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Mumbai. She pursued higher education at Columbia University in New York, graduating in 2016 with a degree in History and Political Science. Despite her academic inclinations, Sara was drawn to acting from a young age, inspired by watching Aishwarya Rai perform on stage in Chicago.

Sara has been open about her struggle with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), which led to significant weight gain during her teenage years. At one point, she weighed around 96 kg. Determined to pursue a career in acting, she underwent a rigorous fitness regime, incorporating yoga, pilates, and a strict diet, successfully shedding the excess weight. 


Bollywood Debut and Career Milestones

Sara made her acting debut in 2018 with the romantic drama Kedarnath, opposite Sushant Singh Rajput. Her portrayal of Mukku, a Hindu girl who falls in love with a Muslim porter, received critical acclaim, earning her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. 

In the same year, she starred alongside Ranveer Singh in Rohit Shetty’s action film Simmba, which was a major commercial success and further established her presence in the industry. 

In 2020, Sara appeared in Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal opposite Kartik Aaryan, and in David Dhawan’s comedy Coolie No. 1 alongside Varun Dhawan. She continued to explore diverse roles, featuring in the 2021 romantic drama Atrangi Re with Dhanush and Akshay Kumar. 

In 2024, Sara took on the role of freedom fighter Usha Mehta in the historical biographical film Ae Watan Mere Watan, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video. She also starred in the patriotic drama Sky Force, released in January 2025, portraying Geeta Vijaya in a story centered on India’s first airstrike in 1965. 

Her upcoming projects include Anurag Basu’s Metro… In Dino, set to release on July 4, 2025, where she plays a significant role in the film’s urban anthology narrative. 


Personal Life and Public Image

Sara is known for her candidness and relatability. At the Times Now Summit 2025, she revealed that her mother, Amrita Singh, manages her finances, humorously noting that even her GPay account is linked to her mother’s phone. 

She shares a close bond with her family, often expressing admiration for her stepmother, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and supporting her brother Ibrahim Ali Khan, who is set to make his Bollywood debut with the Netflix film Naadaniyan
