Actor Randeep Hooda, who recently wed actor Lin Laishram, shared insights into their traditional Meitei wedding and their courtship.
In a recent interview, Hooda revealed that they had a modest wedding ceremony surrounded by close friends and family.
During a conversation on the show Bombay Journey, Hooda reminisced about their dating journey.
“We were friends for many years. On and off, our paths crossed, and during Covid, we began living together. Gradually, our relationship blossomed, leading us to where we are now. Our wedding took place there due to ongoing conflict. A senior colleague of mine from the Assam Rifles helped us a lot. We had a small gathering with family and a few friends,” Hooda shared.
Randeep Hooda shared insights into his Meitei wedding ceremony with Lin, which took place in Imphal in November 2023. He donned a white ensemble typical of a Manipuri groom, while Lin wore a Potloi, a cylindrical skirt crafted from thick cloth and bamboo. The wedding festivities occurred at the Chumthang Shannapung resort in Imphal.
Reflecting on the traditional wedding customs, Hooda said, “Once you don the turban, you must refrain from adjusting it or making any unnecessary movements. I was advised that fidgeting, excessive glances, or smiling would not befit a Meitei groom. I was instructed to remain still on a bench to be deemed a good groom. I hoped not to disappoint my community and maintained absolute stillness.”
Initially embarrassed by the elaborate preparations surrounding the wedding procession, Hooda joked about the practicalities, including friends equipped with containers and umbrellas for emergencies.
Recounting the moment he first laid eyes on Lin in her bridal attire, Hooda described the anticipation and eventual admiration for her stunning appearance.
Despite keeping their relationship private, Randeep Hooda and Lin Laishram frequently shared glimpses of their bond on social media. Lin’s heartfelt birthday post for Hooda in August 2023 fueled speculations about their romance.
Lin Laishram, known for her roles in Bollywood films like “Om Shanti Om,” “Mary Kom,” and “Rangoon,” made a significant impact despite brief appearances on-screen.
