Femina’s Fab 40 list celebrates inspiring women across India who have made us proud this year

In its 63rdanniversary issue, India’s leading women’s magazine puts the spotlight on 40 extraordinary Indian women, detailing their achievements and telling their stories.

From the President of India Droupadi Murmu to Sriya Lenka, the Indian girl who won her place in a K-Pop band, the November issue of Femina features 40 very different women who have inspired us through the last year, including renowned changemakers such as Priyanka Chopra, Nita Ambani, Falguni Nayar, Nikhat Zareen, Harnaaz Sandhu, Masaba Gupta, Captain Abhilasha Barak, Deepika Padukone, Poonam Mehta, Devyani Jaipuria, and many more.

The cover features three athletes from different age groups. Linthoi Chanambam is a 16-year-old judoka from Manipur who has earned India its first-ever gold medal in the World Cadet Judo Championship this year. Nikhat Zareen, 26, is seen as the future of boxing after her win in this year’s Women’s Boxing World Championship, while 94-year-old Bhagwani Devi Dagar is inspirational in her back-to-back wins in the World Masters Athletics Championships this year.

Boxing champion Nikhat Zareen said, “The society that I belong to does not permit women to play a male-dominated sport. Earning a name and fame in that sport is a big achievement for me.”

Judoka Linthoi Chanambam shared, “When I started, my dream was to be an Olympic champion. Now, at 16, I still have the same dream. I really love what I do, and that’s why I do it. That’s what motivates me to continue until I achieve my dream.”

Bhagwani Devi Dagar has a message for aspiring athletes, “Study, play sports, win medals and make our country proud!”

Find out who else is on Femina’s Fab 40 list for 2022 – the November 2022 issue of Femina is now on stands and available online.
