In a recent interview, actor Kalki Koechlin discussed her experiences with polyamorous relationships, highlighting the complexities and necessary boundaries associated with non-traditional partnerships.
Reflecting on her past with filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, Kalki underscored the significance of clear communication and mutual understanding among consenting adults in polyamorous relationships, where individuals have multiple romantic or sexual partners with everyone’s consent.
When asked whether monogamy is unrealistic in today’s world of endless choices, Kalki argued that both monogamy and polyamory are conscious choices. She noted, “Monogamy is a choice. You have options, but it’s essential to choose from them. Just as polyamory has strict rules, so does monogamy, and all parties must agree on these boundaries beforehand.”
Kalki was questioned about her ability to engage in a polyamorous relationship now that she is married and has a child. She humorously replied, “I don’t have time for that, as it’s hard enough to spend time with my partner.” However, she acknowledged that such relationships had occurred in her past and emphasized the need for clear rules and boundaries.
Discussing these boundaries further, Kalki suggested that partners might need to avoid dating within their social circles to maintain a healthy polyamorous relationship. She reflected on her younger self, noting that during that time, she was not interested in settling down and viewed those relationships as experiments. While she knows people who successfully manage long-term polyamorous arrangements, she expressed doubt about her ability to be deeply invested in one.
In addition to her relationship insights, Kalki shared an important update about her personal life, revealing that she has married her long-time partner, Guy Hershberg, with whom she welcomed their daughter, Sappho, in 2020. Previously, she had mentioned her decision to remain unmarried, but she has now confirmed their marriage.
