When Vidya Balan Openly Questioned Shah Rukh Khan About His Awards!

Vidya Balan, much like Kangana Ranaut, is known for her outspoken nature in Bollywood. She has been candid about issues like pay disparity and rejections in the industry. However, her boldness once took center stage when she humorously roasted superstar Shah Rukh Khan at an awards function.

In recent times, several actors have criticized the credibility of awards. While Kangana Ranaut has labeled them ‘useless,’ Emraan Hashmi has shed light on the ‘barter system’ operating behind the scenes. But long before these revelations, Vidya Balan famously quizzed Shah Rukh Khan about the number of awards he may have ‘bought’ over the course of his career.

During the 2013 IIFA Awards, Shah Rukh Khan, hosting the event, approached Vidya Balan in the audience, declaring his intention to speak the truth. He playfully asked her how many awards she had won. Vidya responded with ’47’ and turned the tables, inquiring about Shah Rukh’s tally. Amused, Shah Rukh replied ‘155.’

The banter intensified when Vidya cheekily asked him how many of those awards he had bought. This unexpected question left co-hosts Anushka Sharma, Dia Mirza, and Shahid Kapoor visibly surprised, but Shah Rukh took it in stride, jokingly admitting to buying ‘Thode bohot… 150’ of them.

Vidya didn’t stop there, showcasing her wit by teasing Shah Rukh about his one film release per year and his frequent appearances at 35 awards shows annually. Her remarks subtly referred to the ‘barter system’ that Emraan Hashmi had recently criticized—an arrangement where stars perform at award functions in exchange for recognition.

Shifting gears, Shah Rukh Khan is set to appear in the film ‘King’ alongside his daughter, Suhana Khan. Meanwhile, Vidya Balan is gearing up to reprise her iconic role as Manjulika in ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.’
