Prior to the lavish wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant dominating headlines, the simple and heartfelt wedding of Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal at Sonakshi’s residence captured public attention. In a recent interview, Sonakshi reflected on their decision to keep the ceremony intimate and uncomplicated.
Speaking with Bollywood Bubble, Sonakshi explained that she and Zaheer had always envisioned a small and personal wedding. She expressed, “We had each other and this is something that we wanted to do for so long and we were very clear how we wanted it to be. We wanted it to be small and intimate.”
Their reception took place at Mumbai’s popular restaurant Bastian, attended by several notable figures from Bollywood such as Salman Khan, Rekha, and Anil Kapoor, who joined in lively dancing. Sonakshi revealed her desire for the reception to be a joyous celebration, describing it as an open house where guests freely mingled while she prepared for the event. She recounted, “Friends are chilling in the wardrobe, decor is going on, the food is being set up. So it was literally like an open house and that’s how I wanted my D-Day to be like. It felt so homely and beautiful. It was perfect.”
For her wedding attire, Sonakshi chose a vintage Chikankari saree from her mother for the ceremony and a vibrant red Varanasi silk brocade saree for the reception. She opted for comfort over extravagance, aiming to be at ease and dance freely throughout the celebrations. “I dressed simply because I wanted to be comfortable and I wanted to dance the most at my wedding, which I did,” she remarked.
Sonakshi and Zaheer, who had been in a relationship for seven years, exchanged vows on June 23. Their initial encounter reportedly occurred at a party hosted by Salman Khan, sparking a friendship that blossomed into romance. Their professional collaboration came with the 2022 Netflix film Double XL, where they starred alongside Huma Qureshi.
