The international fusion band Shakti, reassembled after four and a half decades, secured the Best Global Music Album award for “This Moment.” The album features original compositions by John McLaughlin, Zakir Hussain, Shankar Mahadevan, V Selvaganesh, and Ganesh Rajagopalan. Competing with artists like Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido, Shakti triumphed in the challenging category.

John McLaughlin, discussing “This Moment,” described it as a labor of love and a significant milestone in Shakti’s musical evolution. The album reflects 50 years of collaboration since 1973, encapsulating the group’s journey in the 21st century.

More About This Moment

Released on June 30, 2023, the album “This Moment” was a collaborative effort with each band member recording independently from their home cities. Shakti celebrated its 50th Anniversary Tour last year, spanning 27 cities and featuring 17 performances across the United States.
