Celebrity chef Kunal Kapur, renowned for his role as a judge on numerous seasons of Masterchef India, has been granted a divorce from his wife citing cruelty as the grounds.
The court’s verdict highlighted that there was no justification for the couple to endure the agony of remaining together.
Kunal and his wife tied the knot in April 2008 and welcomed a son in 2012. However, Kunal initiated divorce proceedings, alleging humiliation from his wife and lack of respect towards his parents.
In response, his estranged wife accused Kunal and his family of coercion leading to suicide attempts. She further claimed Kunal engaged in flirtatious behavior and extramarital affairs following his fame post Masterchef India. Despite her allegations, lacking substantiating evidence led to the divorce being granted.
The court emphasized that baseless accusations against a public figure like Kunal tarnish his reputation and constitute cruelty.
The bench remarked on the respondent’s conduct towards the appellant, deeming it lacking in dignity and empathy, ultimately bringing disgrace to the institution of marriage.
Kunal Kapur, a highly accomplished chef in India, initially served as a judge on the inaugural season of Masterchef India in 2010. His popularity led to subsequent judging roles in the second, third, and fifth seasons of the show, solidifying his status as one of India’s favorite TV chefs.
