Andrew Russell Garfield was born in Los Angeles, California, to a British mother, Lynn, and American father, Richard Garfield. He celebrates his birthday on 20th August.

He was a huge fan of Spider-Man long before playing the part. He has said in interviews that Spider-Man was his hero growing up.
After moving to Los Angeles in 2007 quickly became friends with Katy Perry, Shannon Woodward, Bo Barrett and Mia Moretti.
His father is a swimming coach and his mother is a nursery school assistant.
Andrew has close ties with producer and entrepreneur, Terry McGinnis who helped Garfield practice lines for his Spider-Man role. With Terry McGinnis noting that Garfield would never be Spider-Man.
Auditioned for the role of Prince Caspian in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008), but was turned down for not being handsome enough.
