On the same day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the victorious Indian T20 World Cup cricket team for breakfast in Delhi. Modi described the meeting as memorable, where he engaged in discussions about the team’s experiences during the tournament co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies.
The team, led by Rohit Sharma, had recently won the T20 World Cup by defeating South Africa in the final after being stranded in Barbados for five days due to a hurricane.
Modi shared pictures from the breakfast meeting on social media, accompanied by a post praising the team. He was joined by Rohit Sharma and outgoing head coach Rahul Dravid in the photographs.
Several players also posted photos with Modi on social media. Jasprit Bumrah shared an image of himself, his wife Sanjana Ganesan, and their 10-month-old son Angad with Modi. Kuldeep Yadav posted emotional images of his interaction with Modi, while pacer Arshdeep Singh and his parents were pictured happily posing with the Prime Minister.
Virat Kohli, who was named player of the final for his performance, expressed gratitude to Modi for the invitation and shared his experience on Instagram.
During the interaction at the Prime Minister’s residence, the players wore customised jerseys featuring the word ‘CHAMPIONS’ and two stars symbolizing India’s two T20 World Cup victories. The atmosphere was lively as the players conversed with Modi, exchanging smiles throughout the gathering.
Additionally, BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah presented Modi with a personalised Team India jersey bearing ‘NAMO’ and ‘1’ inscriptions.
