Flight attendant Elizabeth Evans, who served Queen Elizabeth II, shared intriguing details about the monarch’s in-flight preferences in notes that are set to be auctioned. According to Evans, the Queen would enjoy a martini before meeting her guests mid-flight and preferred to use pillows from home during her travels.
Evans, who worked for British Airways for 28 years, noted that Queen Elizabeth II liked to have a martini before her guests arrived. This information is part of Evans’ notes, which are scheduled for auction on Thursday.
In 1989, Evans hosted Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip on a British Airways Royal Flight during their tour of Singapore and Malaysia. Evans, who passed away in 2017 at age 70, was recognized with a certificate for this special service.
Evans also mentioned that the Queen liked to have Velamints available before takeoff and in her dressing room. Additionally, if the Queen was asleep when the plane landed, she was not to be disturbed, with her bed being left undisturbed until after landing.
The auction house Hansons Auctioneers, which is selling Evans’ collection, reported that the Queen’s dresser would prepare her bed and ensure she was not woken if she was asleep upon arrival.
During her career, Evans also attended to various celebrities on British Airways’ Concorde, the first commercial supersonic airliner. Her memorabilia is expected to fetch between $500 and $760 at auction.
