Anne Hathaway recalls her “Gross” audition!

Anne Hathaway, the renowned Hollywood actress, recently shared an unsettling experience during an interview with V magazine. She recalled being asked to engage in intimate scenes with ten male performers as part of chemistry tests, describing it as “gross.”

Hathaway expressed that in the early 2000s, it was commonplace for actors to be required to kiss potential co-stars to gauge on-screen chemistry. She emphasized that this method was flawed and ineffective.

Reflecting on her personal encounter, Hathaway recounted feeling pressured and uncomfortable when told about the lineup of male performers she was expected to kiss. She questioned her own reaction, wondering if there was something wrong with her for not feeling excited about the prospect.

Despite her reservations, Hathaway admitted to going along with the requests to avoid being perceived as “difficult” in the industry. She acknowledged the fear of jeopardizing her career by refusing to comply with prevailing norms.

Hathaway expressed relief that attitudes have evolved since then, indicating a positive shift in the industry’s approach to casting and chemistry tests.

The actress discussed her latest project, “The Idea of You,” a romantic comedy she stars in and produces through her production company, Welle Entertainment.

Hathaway revealed a departure from traditional casting methods for the film’s male lead, Nicholas Galitzine, where each actor was asked to select a song and participate in an improvisational dance scene to demonstrate character compatibility.

Hathaway fondly recalled Galitzine’s audition, noting his perfect fit for the role, which solidified her decision in casting him.

In “The Idea of You,” Hathaway portrays Solene Marchand, a 40-year-old single mother who embarks on a romantic relationship with Hayes Campbell, played by Galitzine, a 24-year-old lead singer of a popular boy band called August Moon.

Directed by Michael Showalter, the film is scheduled to premiere globally on Prime Video on May 2nd, offering audiences a fresh take on modern romance.
