Aamir Khan is actively working to rebuild his relationship with his daughter, Ira Khan. The actor shared that they are attending joint therapy sessions to address and resolve their long-standing issues.
In a video for Netflix India, Aamir Khan joined Ira and Dr. Vivek Murthy for a discussion on mental health.
Aamir Khan shared that therapy has been instrumental in healing his relationship with Ira. He mentioned, “Therapy is incredibly helpful. Ira encouraged me to start, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who feels it could benefit them. It has helped me a lot. In fact, Ira and I have also started attending joint therapy. We go together to a therapist to work on our relationship and address issues that have persisted for years.”
In a heartfelt conversation on Rhea Chakraborty’s podcast *Chapter 2*, Aamir Khan expressed regret over not being present for his children’s lives, which he believes played a role in his decision to step back from the film industry.
Aamir Khan, who has been a major figure in Indian cinema for more than 30 years, admitted that the pandemic served as a wake-up call, making him reassess his priorities. He revealed that his intense focus on his career had caused him to miss important moments in the lives of his three children — Ira, Junaid, and Azad.
Aamir Khan spoke about the challenges his children faced during his absence and expressed deep regret. He said, “Ira struggled with depression during that time, though she’s much better now, but she needed me. Junaid has been living his life without my presence and is now taking significant steps in his career. If I’m not there for him now, what’s the point? Azad is 9 years old now, and in just a few years, he’ll be a teenager. His childhood is fleeting.”
Ira is Aamir’s daughter from his first marriage to Reena Dutta, with whom he also has a son, Junaid. The couple divorced in 2002. Ira made her directorial debut in 2019 with the play *Medea* by Euripides, starring Hazel Keech. Aamir also has a son, Azad Rao Khan, with his second wife, Kiran Rao, from whom he announced their separation in July.
