Sara Ali Khan on Working with Father Saif Ali Khan

During her discussion with **Shreya Dhoundial, Executive Editor of Mirror Now**, Sara shared insights into her experience working with her father, **Saif Ali Khan**, in a recent advertisement. She mentioned that while both of them are professional on set, there are moments when he gives her feedback, saying, *”You can do it like this, Sara.”* She humorously recalled how he sometimes reacts with surprise, seeing her all dressed up, thinking, *”That’s my daughter? What’s going on?”*

When asked if Saif ever asks her to tone down her appearance, Sara clarified, *”No, he never says that. He might probably say tone it up.”* She was also asked whether her father questions her about makeup or wearing short skirts, to which she jokingly responded, *”That’s not a problem for me because my skirts are usually long.”*

Recalling Sharmila Tagore’s Iconic Bikini Moment

Speaking about her family’s approach to tradition and modernity, Sara reflected on her grandmother **Sharmila Tagore’s** bold bikini moment in a film, emphasizing that tradition is not just about wearing a saree or salwar kameez. She explained, *”Our tradition is reflected in our grace, our body language, and how we carry ourselves.”*

She further elaborated on how she balances modernity with cultural values in her work. Using an example from an advertisement, she said, *”If I have to wear a short skirt in an ad while endorsing a hair removal cream, it’s because that’s part of the job. But grace is something you carry in your eyes and how you present yourself, and that’s something I’ve been taught from an early age.”*

Sara on Her Mother Amrita Singh’s Absence from Films

When asked about her mother **Amrita Singh’s** presence in her viral *Namaste Darshakon* videos, Sara revealed that Amrita was hesitant about being featured. She shared, *”In the drafts that weren’t released, it was just her saying, ‘Namaste Darshakon,’ but then she said, ‘You’re not putting this up.’ Mom is a bit camera shy.”*

Sara noted that her mother received immense love and admiration in her time, **when media and social media scrutiny were minimal**. She believes this is why Amrita Singh does not fully understand the current media culture. When asked if her mother regrets stepping away from acting, Sara responded, *”I don’t think she regrets it at all, but I do try to push her now and then.”* She also praised her mother’s performance in **Badla**, saying she was *”amazing in it.”*
