Drake, a five-time Grammy winner, expressed discontent with the 2024 Grammy Awards after not winning for his collaboration with 21 Savage. Instead of attending, he performed in Tampa, Florida, stating on Instagram that the show represents the opinions of an anonymous group, emphasizing it doesn’t dictate much in the world of music.
This isn’t the first time Drake criticized the Grammys, having previously questioned their relevance and transparency, particularly for hip-hop and black artists. In 2019, he used his acceptance speech to convey that the awards don’t truly represent the value of music. Following in The Weeknd’s footsteps, Drake boycotted the awards, not submitting his 2022 album for consideration.
The Grammys are currently ongoing in Los Angeles, with notable early winners including Joni Mitchell, Miley Cyrus, and SZA.
